THE SOCIAL AT HILTON HEADQUARTERS
CORE Architecture + Design (architect)
The Social is a food hall and public gathering space located on the ground floor of Hilton’s global headquarters in McLean, VA. The landscape scope for this project consists of an outdoor extension of the interior program consisting of a large outdoor terrace with dining, kitchen and grilling areas, a garden pavilion, and seating for informal work and outdoor meetings.
The landscape design follows the direction set forth by the project architects approach to the 10,000 square foot interior eating and gathering space, extending and interpreting the formal language, color palette, and material of that space. Like the interior, the outdoor terrace is designed in such a way that it can host medium to large events as well as functioning as a flexible outdoor workspace; a sort of mixing-bowl for employees and visitors that encourages interaction and collaboration. Fire pits allow the terrace to be used after dark. A glass screen and series of evergreen hedges, deployed around the terrace perimeter, help shield the terrace from gusty winds associated with the area. The connection to the interior dining space is further strengthened by a series of large sliding glass doors that can open to provide seamless connectivity.
